Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., is trying to set limits on the Obama administration’s cross-border trucking program with Mexico.
DeFazio introduced a bill July 6 that would prevent the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration from spending federal Highway Trust Fund money to purchase electronic on-board recorders for Mexican trucks enrolled in the program.
“It is outrageous that taxpayers are being told to foot the bill for the Mexican trucking industry to comply with American safety standards,” he said.
The congressman questions the authority of DOT to implement a permanent cross-border trucking program.
