Extends decades-long relationship in which UP is lead rail provider to ocean carrier

NOL Group renewed its contract with Union Pacific for U.S. rail transport of containerized cargo carried by APL, it liner shipping business.

The new agreement extends a decades-long relationship in which UP has been the lead intermodal rail provider for Singapore-based NOL’s businesses.
NOL characterized the contract as a long-term agreement at competitive market rates.

The contract encompasses the intermodal operations of APL and those of its APL Logistics’ auto-related activities in North America.

UP transports containerized cargo for APL from the ports of Los Angeles, Seattle and Oakland to APL’s major APL inland hubs including Chicago, Memphis and Columbus, Ohio. APL is building a new intermodal container terminal in Joliet, Ill., to strengthen its transcontinental network in the United States.

APL, the world’s sixth-largest container shipping line, is one of the largest users of intermodal rail transportation in the U.S.
